Website 2026

Rīgas 92. vidusskola

We built a new WordPress website for Rīgas 92. vidusskola with our own block theme and plugin, and recovered the old Joomla site's content from the Wayback Machine.

This project is part of our service: website development.

About the project

Rīgas 92. vidusskola is a secondary school run by the Riga city municipality. Its previous website ran on Joomla, but we did not reuse any of the old code, database or extensions. We built a Latvian-language WordPress website with about 27 public pages: about the school, studies, admission, students and parents, documents, gallery, news, events and contacts. There are also accessibility, privacy, cookie and whistleblowing pages.

Challenges

The new site needed the old site's content, including hundreds of news posts and documents, but we did not use the old Joomla database. School staff had to be able to publish content themselves, without technical knowledge. As a municipal school, the client also had specific requirements for security, personal data processing and cookies.

Solutions

We wrote our own tool that recovered the public content from the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine), cleaned it and imported it into WordPress. From 1,005 archive captures we recovered 839 content items (224 pages and 615 news posts) and 451 images or documents. Missing files are listed in a report. The theme and plugin are our own code with no external libraries or fonts. Weather from Open-Meteo is fetched by the server and cached for 15 minutes, so visitors' browsers don't contact third parties. YouTube and other external embeds load only after consent. The admin area has limited access, two-factor authentication, a password policy and an audit log.

Project results

School staff can publish news, documents and events on their own, and they have a user guide for it. Along with the site we handed over written procedures for security, personal data processing, incidents and updates. In internal lab tests the homepage loaded in about 0.5 s on desktop and 0.2 s on mobile, and the basic accessibility checks found no errors.
